We have long been supporters of CD baby, and have a great appreciation for what they have accomplished over the years when it comes to supporting independent musicians around the world. We have a great respect for Derek Sivers, who we consider a visionary and a pioneer.
It is regrettable that CD baby has been receiving so much criticism since their takeover.
As you may already know, Record Union are a digital distribution service dedicated to helping independent artists around the world. We distribute music to a diverse selection of partners, including music stores, streaming services and mobiles stores (and reach around 95% of the market for digital music). Our aim is to democratize the access to global digital distribution, and enable all artists to sell their music on a global marketplace. Though we are in BETA version, we have been receiving great responses so far from artists who have been using our service,
In the wake of the current dissatisfaction of many CD Baby customers, we would like to present ourselves as an alternative and give them the chance to digitally distribute their music with us.
We will provide all CD Baby customers (and those using other digital distributors) 2 UPC codes each so that they can try out our service and distribute their music to all our partners for free. Just send us an email at switch(at)recordunion.com and we will go from there.
