81% Here Say Sales Are Down

As you can see, my latest mini-poll indicates that most voters' sales are down at CD Baby since "re-launch."

Lately, cdbaby.org has been heating up with lots of opinionating on this mess. In fact we're seeing a lot more vigorous debate than usual over there, for the first time in a while, with Chris of CD Baby fielding things remarkably well.

Sure, the tanking economy of 2008-09 has something to do with plummeting sales, but as Adrian has pointed out here and there, CD Baby hasn't helped things for us by disabling the search and "sounds like" functions, and--even worse--destroying our own links to our own CD Baby pages!

And WTF is up with iTunes anyway? For many, maybe most, of us, this was our prime income stream from CD Baby. You would think that this major DD company would be totally unaffected by the Baby's troubles, but apparently not. On this issue Chris's and others' explanations are becoming tiresome--they sound more and more like some sort of "party line." No wonder people are fuming.

  1. I told our book-keeper what Chris was saying about the drop in sales/payments - and she said, "that's just crap!" and I have to agree

We're being patient, and most of us more patient that the situation calls for - still, when someone is either ignorant of the reality, or is trying to b.s. me, it is, at best, tiresome.

Things are seriously wrong with the programming and various functions, and we're witnessing the negative effects on our hits and sales.

Your new poll points to the question on the mind of most realistic and honest folks. How long can/will we wait for things to be fixed?

The goodwill generated by staffers with whom we've all developed relationships over the years is buying more time for the new management.

Here's hoping they spend that time wisely.

  2. There are so many things broken at CDBaby you just have to assume there's more than a few pipes broken as well. By "pipes" I mean the feeder tubes that bring sales reports. The main ones may have been re-attached for the main DD sites (iTunes US for one) but I've seen no reports since relaunch from iTunes Australia which (oddly enough as a Canadian) is where most of my sales come from. So, to say "iTunes sales are down" might be true only because we haven't heard back from all the various iTunes versions out there?

  3. Hi there,
just found this blog. I just reviewed my sales @ cdbaby since Derek sold his company to Discmakers...and my sales decreased from dozens in 2008 to one (!) cd this year.
So, what the hell are the reasons for that?

    Mike
